Brownfield Vapor Intrusion Risk Assessment for a Former Carbon Tetrachloride Facility

As part of a site redevelopment effort, Integral scientists assessed the residual risks from exposure to soils and groundwater affected by volatile organic chemicals from a former carbon tetrachloride facility. The risk evaluations were conducted in accordance with a tiered system established by the state for its voluntary remediation program. Using various fate and transport models, including EPA’s Johnson and Ettinger models for vapor intrusion, Integral scientists evaluated the potential risks from exposures to organic chemical vapors in future commercial buildings, and utility and construction trenches. The site has now been successfully redeveloped.
