Kaitlyn Chick, P.E.

Engineer (207) 800-3811 Portland, ME kchick@integral-corp.com

Ms. Kaitlyn Chick is a professional engineer with 5 years of consulting experience in preparing remedial design and bid packages, writing engineering reports, and performing construction oversight and quality assurance. Her primary responsibilities include reviewing specifications, design drawings, and contractor submittals; supporting operations, monitoring, and maintenance (OM&M) of project sites; and preparing work plans and completion reports. Ms. Chick has extensive experience executing fieldwork including air, water, and soil sampling, while serving as a field lead or construction manager.

Environmental Monitoring

Landfill OM&M, New York Conducted routine inspections at a closed landfill under the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Superfund program. The site includes the landfill and a groundwater extraction and treatment system. Responsibilities included documenting the conditions of the cap, surrounding monitoring wells, leachate extraction system, and security fencing and providing recommendations for repair and maintenance.

PFAS/Emerging Contaminants

Environmental Security Technology Certification Program, PFAS Removal and Destruction from Groundwater, New Hampshire Supported a treatability study testing the effectiveness of a novel treatment train to remove per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and reduce operation and disposal costs versus traditional granular activated charcoal treatment. The treatment train consisted of ion exchange resin, regeneration, and regenerant distillation, followed by low-energy plasma destruction of the concentrated PFAS brine. Assisted in preparation of reports, presentations, permits, and schedules. Conducted weekly sampling for the duration of the pilot test.

Remediation Construction Oversight

Corrective Action at Former Zinc Smelter Site, Blackwell, Oklahoma Served as onsite construction quality assurance (CQA) representative for remedial corrective action at a former zinc smelter site. Corrective action included expanding existing groundwater treatment well network through installation of horizontal wells and additional conveyance piping. Trained onsite personnel in CQA procedures.
Remedial Action at Former Wood Treating CERCLA Facility, Navassa, North Carolina Served as onsite CQA representative for remedial action at a former wood treatment facility. Remedial action consisted of excavation and onsite stockpiling of contaminated soils. Reviewed preconstruction contractor submittals and performed CQA in accordance with the design documents, including extensive air monitoring.
Remedial Action at Former Fertilizer and Pesticide Manufacturing CERCLA Facility, Maryland Served as field engineer/construction manager for in situ solidification/stabilization treatment of principal threat waste, excavation and consolidation of impacted soils over much of the site area, and construction of a multilayer membrane cover system over the consolidation area. Additional responsibilities included coordinating with subcontractors, collecting quality control samples, performing extensive perimeter air monitoring, and interacting frequently with the client and members of the community. Prior to construction, assisted in developing the bid package and reviewing contractor work plans. Led the preparation of the remedial action completion report after construction completion.
Remedial Action at Old Erie Canal, New York Performed construction oversight and quality assurance of the dredging and offsite disposal of PCB-contaminated sediment from a section of the former Erie Canal.
Remedial Action at Former Manufactured Gas Plant, Saranac Lake, New York Collected samples from soil borings to delineate waste and described the results in the predesign investigation report. Performed construction oversight for excavation, in situ solidification, and capping of a former manufactured gas plant property. Performed follow-up site management inspections where sampling of sediment, groundwater, and surface water were collected and submitted to laboratory for analysis. Drafted construction completion report following the remedial action.

Contaminated Sediments

Penobscot River Estuary, Maine Performed sediment sampling and ice flow monitoring in intertidal flats to support the design of a capping remedy for 130 acres of intertidal flats in Orrington Reach to reduce mercury exposures and accelerate recovery in the estuary while minimizing ecological impacts associated with the cap placement.
Remedial Action at Old Erie Canal, New York Performed construction oversight and quality assurance of the dredging and offsite disposal of PCB-contaminated sediment from a section of the former Erie Canal.

Litigation Support

Multiple Former Manufactured Gas Plants, New York Supported document review and research of former site operations and remedial design to assist with preparation of expert report regarding sources of PAHs, metals, and nonaqueous-phase liquids in nearby water bodies.

Vapor Intrusion

Great Neck Subslab Depressurization System, New York Assisted in the ongoing OM&M of a subslab depressurization system with a capacity of 6,000 standard cubic feet per minute at a 1‑million-square-foot facility housing numerous tenants within sensitive industries, including medical analytics and patient care. Prepared various reports and analyzed data indicating that the system remains protective of human health and the environment.
Dry Cleaner, New York Performed site management activities at an active dry-cleaning facility.  Oversaw the operation and maintenance of the existing groundwater pump and treatment system and soil vapor extraction system and provided quarterly reports to the client.  The primary contaminant of concern was tetrachloroethylene.

Cost Estimating

Remedial Action at Former Wood Treating CERCLA Facility, Navassa, North Carolina Prepared engineer’s cost estimate for unforeseen conditions to assist client to obtain stakeholder approval of budget for next calendar year.

Air Quality Monitoring

Remedial Action at Former Wood Treating CERCLA Facility, Navassa, North Carolina Performed daily perimeter air monitoring for PM10 and volatile organic compounds during excavation and stockpiling of contaminated soils. Performed supplemental air sampling of PAHs, PM10, benzene, and naphthalene.

Sediment Sampling

Penobscot River Estuary, Maine Performed sediment sampling and ice flow monitoring in intertidal flats to support the design of a capping remedy for 130 acres of intertidal flats in Orrington Reach to reduce mercury exposures and accelerate recovery in the estuary while minimizing ecological impacts associated with the cap placement.
