Kaitlyn Chick
Engineer

Ms. Kaitlyn Chick is an environmental engineer with 4 years of consulting experience in preparing remedial design and bid packages, writing engineering reports, and performing construction oversight. Her primary responsibilities include reviewing specifications, drawings, and contractor submittals; supporting operations, monitoring, and maintenance (OM&M) of project sites; and preparing work plans and completion reports. Ms. Chick has extensive experience executing fieldwork including air, water, and soil sampling, while serving as a field lead or construction manager.

Environmental Monitoring

Richardson Hill Road Landfill OM&M, New York Conducted routine landfill inspections at the Richardson Hill Road Landfill Superfund site. The site includes the landfill and a groundwater extraction and treatment system.

PFAS/Emerging Contaminants

Environmental Security Technology Certification Program, PFAS Removal and Destruction from Groundwater, New Hampshire Supported a treatability study testing the effectiveness of a novel treatment train to remove per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and reduce operation and disposal costs versus traditional granular activated charcoal treatment. The treatment train consisted of ion exchange resin, regeneration, and regenerant distillation, followed by low-energy plasma destruction of the concentrated PFAS brine. Assisted in preparation of reports, presentations, permits, and schedules. Conducted weekly sampling for the duration of the pilot test.

Remediation Construction Oversight

Central Chemical Superfund Site, Maryland Served as field engineer/construction manager for in situ solidification/stabilization treatment of principal threat waste, excavation and consolidation of impacted soils over much of the site area, and construction of a multilayer membrane cover system over the consolidation area. Additional responsibilities included coordinating with subcontractors, collecting quality control samples, performing extensive perimeter air monitoring, and interacting frequently with the client and members of the community. Prior to construction, assisted in developing the bid package and reviewing contractor work plans. Led the preparation of the remedial action completion report after construction completion.
Old Erie Canal, New York Oversaw the dredging and offsite disposal of PCB-contaminated sediment from a section of the former Erie Canal.
Saranac Lake Gas Co. Remedial Action, New York Collected samples from soil borings to delineate waste and described the results in the predesign investigation report. Performed construction oversight for excavation, in situ solidification, and capping of a former manufactured gas plant property. Performed follow-up site management inspections where sampling of sediment, groundwater, and surface water were collected and submitted to laboratory for analysis. Drafted construction completion report following the remedial action.

Vapor Intrusion

Great Neck Subslab Depressurization System, New York Assisted in the ongoing OM&M of a subslab depressurization system with a capacity of 6,000 standard cubic feet per minute at a 1‑million-square-foot facility housing numerous tenants within sensitive industries, including medical analytics and patient care. Prepared various reports and analyzed data indicating that the system remains protective of human health and the environment.
Dry Cleaner, New York Performed site management activities at an active dry-cleaning facility.  Oversaw the operation and maintenance of the existing groundwater pump and treatment system and soil vapor extraction system and provided quarterly reports to the client.  The primary contaminant of concern was tetrachloroethylene.
