The Conceptual Site Model: Webinar
By Todd Martin, P.E., Principal, Engineering
Susan B. Welt, MPH, P.E., Principal, Engineering
A conceptual site model (CSM) is foundational to both designing and implementing remedial actions. Too often, a CSM is developed during the remedial investigation and remains a static representation limited to the described nature and extent of contamination and the associated risks to human health and the environment at the time of measurement. This approach does not allow a remedy to be optimized or modified based on changing site conditions and stakeholder needs through the design and implementation process.
For a CSM to be an effective tool for the successful implementation of a remedy, it must be a living representation of the site that is constantly challenged with the emergence of subsequent data and tailored to include all factors relevant to implementing a successful remedy and meeting the project goals.
Session Overview
In this hour-long discussion, Integral Consulting Inc.’s Todd Martin, P.E., and Susan Welt, MPH, P.E., will discuss the value of developing, updating, and maintaining a robust CSM to guide management of the remedial process–from investigation through design implementation and operations, maintenance, and monitoring–in an effective and efficient manner that reduces risk and liabilities.
The discussion will include:
- Factors to consider to collect the data needed to develop a CSM that supports designing the remedy and long-term site strategy
- Value in the “living” nature of a CSM to meet stakeholder needs and project objectives
- Use of the CSM as a communication and environmental management tool
- Example case studies from complex sites.
