Mr. Sergio Martinez is an assistant scientist with extensive hands-on experience in environmental monitoring, water quality assessment, and dredging investigation projects. His field experience spans diverse environments, including river channels, streams, the ocean, estuaries, reservoirs, and beaches, where he conducts stormwater, surface water, groundwater, and drinking water sampling.
Mr. Martinez plays a key role in planning and conducting both wet- and dry-weather monitoring events, maintaining and calibrating automated samplers and telemetry systems, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality data in support of municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4) NPDES permit compliance and total maximum daily load (TMDL) objectives for the Los Angeles Region.
In addition to his water quality expertise, Mr. Martinez supports marine sediment sampling and dredge investigations for major U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects in harbors along the coast of Southern California, including Long Beach, Newport Beach, and Oceanside. He plays a critical role in conducting vibracore and van Veen grab operations, requiring physical endurance and adhering to strict sampling protocols under demanding field conditions. Mr. Martinez has also managed sample control and processing for sediment cores collected for chemical, physical, and toxicity analysis. His contributions inform regulatory evaluations for maintenance dredging, beach nourishment, and offshore sand borrow site development, providing essential data for coastal resource management.
Prior to his work in environmental consulting, Mr. Martinez served as a lead utility forester, where he conducted quality control audits, fire risk inspections, and training for new staff in compliance under General Order 95 and the California Fire Code. With a strong foundation in environmental compliance, technical fieldwork, and leadership, Mr. Martinez is a key asset to Integral’s field operations and environmental monitoring programs.
