Assistant Scientist

Mr. Luis Vargas is an environmental scientist focused on contaminated site investigation and remediation with experience organizing and analyzing data for projects. He uses ArcGIS Pro for mapping and modeling as well as the programming language Python for statistical analysis and data visualization. Mr. Vargas is also experienced in sampling soil and surface water for research in biogeochemical cycling.


Data Management

Support for PCB-Contaminated Soil Remediation, Guánica, Puerto Rico Organized and summarized dust monitoring data from excavation and backfill sites for submittal to EPA. Tracked quantities of soil waste produced and fill materials purchased. Created a system for tracking stormwater and erosion observations across the site.
Support for a PFAS Litigation Case, Widefield, Colorado Reviewed documents submitted to gather data relevant to the case. Organized and labeled laboratory data from water samples collected from sites in the investigation area for entry into a database.

Web Development

Updating State PFAS Regulations Dashboard, United States Researched state regulations for maximum concentrations of PFAS in soil and added updated information to a data set for use in updating the online reference tool.
