Ms. Emily Barosin is a multifaceted and dedicated engineer with a growing depth of knowledge and project experience in underwater acoustics, hydrodynamics, and environmental transport and fate. She is skilled in data analysis and interpretation with experience applying machine learning techniques to engineering challenges. She also has experience creating a variety of numerical models for fluid system and structural analysis. Ms. Barosin is a strong technical writer with the ability to communicate concepts to audiences with varied technical backgrounds.

Engineering

Underwater Structural Health Monitoring, New Hampshire Developed a method to monitor the structural health of underwater propellors and turbines using passive acoustics. Successfully differentiated between structurally healthy blades and blades with a variety of structural faults, such as biofouling and blade loss, using machine learning based analysis techniques.
Mechanical Engineering, New Hampshire As project manager and test lead, designed a cross-axial turbine to be used in low flow-speed environments with off grid capabilities. Conducted an energy availability assessment at several potential deployment locations. Led Phase I system testing efforts to quantify mechanical efficiency of the device.

Marine Science

Current Velocity Sensor Validation, California Compared ocean current measurements from an acoustic Doppler current profiler and a single-point velocity sensor for the purpose of velocity sensor validation using statistical methods. Communicated results of the comparison study in a high visibility report.
Seagrass Acoustic Propagation Study, New York Co-designed seagrass acoustic propagation study in a shallow estuary. Managed nearshore field effort including hydrophone deployment and YSI data collection. Analyzed propagation results to understand impact of grass bubble production on sound attenuation.

Offshore Energy

Acoustic Assessment, California Analyzed data from an oil platform decommissioning event to characterize the acoustic effects of the mechanical cutting of conductors. Delineated sound produced by the cutting from broadband vessel noise near the decommissioning site. With this data, developed a directional acoustic filtering method.
Marine Mammal Acoustic Impacts, New York Validated range and injury estimates for marine mammals from monopile and pin pile installation plans using prior acoustic transmission loss model outputs. These efforts directed acoustic model refinement for more accurate estimates.
Acoustic Assessment, Oregon Deployed NoiseSpotterTM and other acoustic sensors offshore to acquire baseline acoustic measurements of a future marine energy site. Participated in field efforts and initial data quality control. The acoustic measurements will be used to characterize the sound field of the energy site.
