Product Stewardship

Safety Data Sheets for Pharmaceutical Client, United States Authored safety data sheets (SDSs) for pharmaceutical compounds in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration Hazard Communication Standard in Globally Harmonized System format. Implemented use of in silico analyses and structure–activity relationship data to characterize investigative drug compounds and intermediates with limited or no toxicological data.
Labeling and Warnings for Cosmetics and Dietary Supplements, United States Performed safety evaluations of various cosmetic and dietary supplement products and provided client with recommended warnings and/or labeling elements for compliance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration requirements such as the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.
Labeling and Warnings for Household Products, United States Provided client with recommended label elements for various household chemical products according to Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) requirements.
Evaluation of Trace Benzene in Consumer and Industrial Products, Various Locations Facilitated the analytical testing of trace benzene contamination in products containing petroleum distillates and assessed potential exposure to downstream user, if applicable.
Exposure Reconstruction Study for Automotive Product, Columbia, Maryland Collaborated in the design and conduct of an exposure simulation study to evaluate potential exposure to benzene from use of an automotive cleaning solvent for use in support of expert opinions in benzene litigation.
Exposure Reconstruction Study for Insulation Product, United States Designed and oversaw an exposure simulation study to evaluate worker exposure to volatile solvents from the use of industrial insulation material for the purpose of comparison to occupational exposure limits and product stewardship recommendations.

Human Health Risk Assessment

Contaminants in Drinking Water, United States Performed numerous human health risk assessments of contaminants detected in drinking water in accordance with the standards of the National Sanitation Foundation and EPA.
PCBs in Fish, Oregon Collaborated in the assessment of human health risk from consuming fish contaminated with PCBs in the state of Oregon to support expert opinions for a lawsuit.

Litigation Support

Oil Spill Litigation, United States Performed case review, data analysis, exposure reconstruction, risk characterization, and prepared report on behalf of subject matter expert for multiple trial group and single-plaintiff legal cases alleging chronic health effects resulting from a crude oil spill. Completed dose calculations for multiple hydrocarbons and other crude oil constituents, including benzene, xylenes, toluene, total petroleum hydrocarbons, metals, and PAHs.
Benzene Litigation, United States Performed research and case analysis and prepared reports and trial demonstratives on behalf of subject matter expert for legal cases involving claims of benzene exposure from various consumer, industrial, and petroleum products. Completed dose calculations for benzene from all potential sources, including petrochemical products, smoking, and ambient air. Evaluated product labels, SDSs, and warnings for compliance with applicable standards, such as OSHA Hazard Communication Standard or CPSC Federal Hazardous Substances Act.
Asbestos Litigation, United States Performed research and case analysis and prepared reports and trial demonstratives on behalf of subject matter experts for legal cases involving asbestos exposure from non-friable asbestos-containing materials such as gaskets, packing, floor tiles, and friction products.
Pesticide Litigation, Pennsylvania Performed research, exposure reconstruction, and risk analysis and prepared report on behalf of subject matter expert for legal case alleging cancer from exposure to various pesticide products. Used EPA-supported models to quantify exposure to several pesticide ingredients.

Modeling

Model Evaluation Studies, Columbia, Maryland Designed and conducted exposure reconstruction studies for the purpose of evaluating personal exposures to volatile organic compounds from industrial and consumer products and for the purpose of evaluating exposure reconstruction models such as the nearfield, farfield model.
