Mala Pattanayek Elected as Vice President of National Board for Women In Environment

We are proud to announce Mala Pattanayek has been elected Vice President of the National Board for Women in Environment (WIE).

Integral Consulting Inc. was founded in part by women and continues to employ women in leadership, technical, and support roles throughout the company. Today, 54% of Integral employees identify as female. This statistic is more than just a number; it is a living representation of Integral’s values. In an industry where women, on average, make up 32% of the workforce, it is vital that we actively work to increase representation and equity in science, engineering, and environmental jobs.

Empowering women in environmental careers creates more effective, innovative, and successful solutions. Integral’s mission can only be achieved by including diverse perspectives and identities at all levels of the organization. When women are supported, communities and societies benefit.

WIE was founded in 2009 as a 501(c) with a vision to provide a supportive community to women working in environmental careers. Through mentoring, education, and networking, the group has grown to more than 1,000 members. Ms. Pattanayek and Carolina Zuri, E.I.T., QISP have both been active in WIE’s Bay Area chapter since 2016.

Ms. Zuri first served on the Mentoring Committee, the Communications Committee, and the Organization Board, and she has since become Chair of the Mentoring Committee. She played an instrumental role in growing the chapter’s mentoring program from around 30 members in 2017 to nearly 100 in 2021. Through the mentoring program, WIE members expand their networks, find safe and supportive spaces to discuss work challenges, improve their careers, and feel empowered.

Ms. Pattanayek formerly served as Chair for the Networking Committee and the Board’s Strategic Planning Committee prior her recent election as Vice President of the National WIE Board. She has helped lead marketing, strategic planning, fundraising, and corporate sponsorship initiatives. As Vice President, Ms. Pattanayek is focused on growth and expanding WIE beyond the West Coast.
