Featuring NRD thought and policy leaders, the program covers timely and important topics for those involved in NRD claims, along with strategies and tactics for handling large, complex cases.

On Friday, August 10, Ms. Durda will speak at a morning session titled “Alternative Dispute Resolution in NRDA: A Viable Pathway to Timelier NRD Settlements?” This session will highlight the pros and cons of using alternative dispute resolution approaches to help the parties move more quickly through areas of the case where forward movement in the cooperative process may have come to a standstill. Ms. Durda’s co-presenters are William Brighton, Esq., Assistant Chief, Environmental Enforcement Section, U.S. Department of Justice; Lester Jan Levy, Esq., JAMS; and Craig R. O’Connor, Esq., Special Counsel for Natural Resources, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The session will be moderated by Robert Haddad, Ph.D., Group Vice President, Environmental & Earth Sciences, Exponent, Inc.

The NRD conference will feature a congressional perspective on lessons learned from Deepwater Horizon, views from the trenches on evolving federal NRD policy, effective use of alternative dispute resolution to reach consensus among the experts, and other topics of interest. Participants will have the opportunity to earn continuing legal education credits, and will also be able to attend sessions via webcast.
