John M. Romansic, Ph.D.

Bio

A broadly trained ecologist with a deep expertise in herpetology, Dr. John Romansic is a senior wildlife ecologist and project ecologist with more than 25 years of consulting and research experience. Dr. Romansic has conducted more than 10 years of amphibian ecology research on and the causes of amphibian population declines, publishing more than 20 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals. His doctoral research in disease ecology investigated how environmental stressors and multiple pathogens combine to influence survival, growth, and development in amphibian hosts. He has observed and handled hundreds of California red-legged frogs (CRLF), foothill yellow-legged frogs, Sierra Nevada yellow-legged frogs, southern mountain yellow-legged frogs, and other frog species. He has also observed and handled California tiger salamanders (CTS), California newts, San Francisco garter snakes, western pond turtles, and desert tortoises. Dr. Romansic has also worked with other taxa–including birds, mammals, and fish–in a diversity of habitats.

Dr. Romansic applies his herpetological and general wildlife expertise to a range of client projects. He performs surveys and construction monitoring, contributes to habitat and impact assessments, biological assessments, and incidental take permits, drafts portions of CEQA documents, and conducts worker awareness training. He also performs statistical analysis of bird and bat fatalities at wind energy facilities, including tests of the efficacy of turbine curtailment and deterrence signals for reducing fatality and power analyses to aid experimental design.

Prior to joining Integral Consulting, Dr. Romansic was a senior wildlife ecologist and project manager at H. T. Harvey & Associates where he worked for nearly 10 years.
