Bio
Mr. Erik Rodriguez is an environmental engineer specializing in environmental sampling programs, remediation operations and maintenance, environmental site assessments, GIS mapping, CAD modeling, and report generation. His remediation experience includes the treatment of stormwater impacted by PFAS, the treatment of groundwater impacted by chlorinated volatile organic compounds, and light nonaqueous-phase liquid (LNAPL) recovery.
Relevant Experience
PFAS Investigation and Remediation
Surface Water Recovery System, Treatment, and Operations and Maintenance, New York — Served as the operator of a multipoint, automated recovery system to capture and treat stormwater containing PFAS. System met discharge permit criteria for PFAS concentrations. Supervised in-field upgrades to stormwater conveyance systems and impoundments.
Groundwater Investigation, Alaska — Served as a field team lead on a large-scale PFAS plume investigation at a U.S. government military facility. Managed the sonic drilling of deep well borings and groundwater sampling over a 6-month period.
Due Diligence
Phase I ESA Site Assessments, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania — Conducted Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) for commercial and residential real estate transactions in compliance with ASTM International and EPA standards. Evaluated environmental risks through onsite inspections, historical record reviews, and regulatory database research. Prepared detailed reports identifying recognized environmental conditions.
Groundwater Remediation
LNAPL Recovery in a Fractured Rock Aquifer, Operations and Maintenance, New Jersey — Served as the operator of a multiwell groundwater depression, treatment, and LNAPL recovery system. Implemented a bedrock fracture investigation to identify optimal LNAPL recovery zones.
Ozone and Hydrogen Peroxide Injection System Installation and Operation at a TCE-Impacted Site, Pennsylvania — Assisted in the installation of a multipoint ozone and hydrogen peroxide injection system for the in situ remediation of trichloroethene (TCE)-impacted groundwater. Connected injection lines to the main distribution system, configured and tested system settings during startup, and performed routine operation and maintenance.
LNAPL Recovery in an Unconsolidated Aquifer, Delaware — Perform operations and maintenance tasks at a shallow aquifer groundwater depression and LNAPL recovery system. Responsibilities include equipment upkeep, system optimization, discharge permit compliance, LNAPL recovery and thickness measurements, and groundwater elevation measurements.
Treatability Studies, Multiple Remediation Sites, New Jersey and Pennsylvania — Conducted bench-scale and in situ studies to evaluate antifouling and antiscaling reagents at LNAPL remediation sites. Deployed reagent drip systems into recovery wells to facilitate groundwater process flow and treatability and enhance LNAPL recovery rates.
Water Quality Monitoring
Delaware Water Resources Center Water Quality Monitoring, Delaware — Served as a student researcher monitoring contaminant levels in northern Delaware watersheds. Collected field samples, coordinated with the analytical laboratory, and interpreted results for Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s water quality assessment and state-level health standards.
Sampling
Phase II ESA Soil Vapor Sampling, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — Conducted soil vapor sampling for a Phase II ESA. Collected samples and documented sampling procedures, field conditions, and results to support site characterization and risk evaluation.
Rapid Response Vapor Sampling, Maryland — Conducted rapid response subsurface vapor sampling in response to detected gas leaks. Documented sample locations, photoionization detector (PID) readings, and collection details. Ensured the timely delivery of samples to the laboratory for analysis.
Lead in Drinking Water, Monitoring Program, Pennsylvania — Served as an in-field environmental engineer to identify, catalog, and collect potable water samples from outlets across a large public school system.
PFAS in Groundwater, New Jersey and Delaware — Performed groundwater sampling at multiple large-scale sites containing PFAS compounds. Work included low-flow purge and volumetric purge methodology, the calibration and use of water quality instrumentation, and adherence to sample handling and QA/QC protocols to meet data quality objectives.
Multiple Contaminants in Groundwater, Federal Superfund Site, Bridgeport, New Jersey — Collect groundwater samples at a large-scale federal Superfund site impacted by volatile organic compounds and semivolatile organic compounds. Work includes low-flow purge methodology, the calibration and use of water quality instrumentation, and adherence to sample handling and QA/QC protocols to meet data quality objectives.
Regulatory Compliance
Electrical Substation Soil and Erosion Monitoring, Pennsylvania — Served as the responsible personnel for erosion and sediment control during substation construction involving the installation of a new transformer. Conducted routine inspections of construction activities and erosion and sediment control measures to ensure compliance with state- and project-specific environmental regulations.
SVE System Decommissioning, Health and Safety Oversight, and Site Restoration at a Federal Superfund Site, Pennsylvania — Served as field team lead for the decommissioning of a soil vapor extraction (SVE) system at a Superfund site. Oversaw health and safety compliance, conducted daily tailgate meetings, and assisted in the removal of system tanks, header boxes, and subsurface piping. Documented preconstruction site conditions, daily activities, and post-restoration completion to support project closeout reporting.
Subslab Inspection of a Soil Vapor Recovery System, Washington, DC — Performed annual inspections of a subslab vapor intrusion mitigation system in a multiunit apartment building. Assessed basement floors, vapor pipes, and rooftop turbines. Collected PID, vacuum, and vent flow readings. Documented cracks, damage, and system conditions. Prepared detailed reports with photo logs.
State-Level Reporting (DMR Submittals), Delaware, New Jersey, and New York — Compiled monthly discharge monitoring reports (DMRs) to state authorities for groundwater depression remediation systems in Delaware, New York, and New Jersey.
GIS & Geoscience
Site Base Map and Sample Location Creation, Pennsylvania — Supported multiple Phase I ESAs, site characterization, and sampling events by creating site base maps, sample location maps, and site location maps using GIS software. Ensured maps were accurate and suitable for field use, reporting, and regulatory documentation.
