Emily Anderson is a geologist with experience in groundwater and soil sampling, soil logging, and remediation system operation and maintenance. She also provides research and writing support for legal, regulatory, and technical projects.
Relevant Experience
Groundwater Sampling
Groundwater Sampling, Multiple Sites, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania — Participated in groundwater sampling events at a variety of sites across multiple states, including Superfund and Delaware Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act sites. Included low-flow and volumetric purge sampling methods using a variety of equipment, calibration and use of water quality monitoring instruments, and QA/QC protocols to meet data quality objectives for a range of contaminants including PFAS and volatile organic compounds.
Site Remediation
LNAPL Recovery, Delaware — Performed routine inspections and maintenance of groundwater pumping and light nonaqueous-phase liquid (LNAPL) recovery systems and conducted regular monitoring of groundwater levels and LNAPL plume thickness in an unconfined aquifer.
Sampling
Soil Investigations, Multiple Sites, Pennsylvania and New Jersey — Logged soil borings and collected samples for a range of contaminants at multiple sites, adhering to sample handling and QA/QC protocols to ensure that data quality objectives were met. Projects included Phase II environmental investigations, composite sampling for waste characterization, and post-excavation sampling to verify removal of contaminated material. Provided oversight of drilling and excavation activities.
Transmission Tower Sampling, Delaware — Conducted shallow soil sampling, paint chip sampling, and x-ray fluorescence analysis along a multimile circuit of electrical transmission towers. Provided data analysis and reporting support.
Rapid Response Vapor Sampling, Maryland — Conducted rapid response subsurface vapor sampling in response to suspected gas leaks.
Litigation Support
PFAS Litigation Support, United States — Reviewed and analyzed publicly available and client-suppled materials and conducted additional research to support development of multiple expert reports on waste management practices, regulations, and PFAS considerations. Participated in meetings with legal team, oversaw reference management, and contributed to the production of final deliverable reports.
Regulatory Support
Wastewater Regulation Evaluation, Delaware — Conducted in-depth regulatory and technical research on topics including PFAS, biosolids management, and wastewater permitting. Prepared thorough and concise reports on a variety of topics to inform client decision-making.
