Beale Air Force Base Natural Resources Support

Project Summary

For more than 20 years, Integral staff have supported management of natural resources across the more than 20,000 acres of conservation lands at Beale Air Force Base, including vernal pool habitat supporting numerous sensitive species.

Location: Yuba County, California

Challenge

The base’s more than 20,000 acres of largely undeveloped land, including extensive vernal pools, needed ongoing management to support common and sensitive plant and wildlife species alongside an active livestock grazing program, all while maintaining Section 7 consultation and NEPA compliance.

Our Role

Led by the principal of the Sacramento Valley office, Integral staff have provided natural resources technical assistance and program support for the base’s livestock grazing program, identifying areas where vernal pool restoration could be conducted, mapping invasive and rare plants over thousands of acres, and developing conceptual habitat restoration designs. The team conducted protocol-level surveys for vernal pool branchiopods, burrowing owls, northwestern pond turtles, California red-legged frogs, anadromous salmonids, western spadefoot, and giant garter snakes per the base’s Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan, and completed wetland delineations, CRAM studies, and biological assessments for Section 7 consultations and NEPA support.

What We Delivered & Results

More than two decades of continuous natural resources technical support have spanned protocol-level wildlife surveys, restoration opportunity identification, and invasive species mapping across the base’s grazing lands.
