American River Ranch Habitat Restoration Planning

Integral staff prepared the Habitat Restoration and Management Plan for the Soil Born Farms Edible Forest Project, a nearly 3-acre restoration effort within the 55-acre American River Ranch on the American River Parkway, home to the federally threatened valley elderberry longhorn beetle. The project focused on drought-tolerant California native plantings, including oak trees and blue elderberry shrubs, designed to support pollinators and the beetle while honoring Nisenan cultural connections to the land. Integral staff obtained required project permits, including a Central Valley Flood Protection Board encroachment permit. Installed in early 2025, the project is on track to meet its restoration targets without the use of invasive species or chemical inputs.
