Data Science

Criminal Justice, Salt Lake City, Utah Analyzed Utah criminal justice and courts data for multiple projects to evaluate the effects of policy changes, the quality of indigent defendant’s legal representation, and juvenile justice records information to predict adult justice system involvement.  Aspects of these studies were detailed in an article in Bloomberg CityLab and two articles in Deseret News regarding jail restrictions and prison reform.
The Future of Higher Education, Nationwide Led data engineering, advanced quantitative modeling, spatial analysis, and dashboard design endeavors to understand the potential consequences to all higher education institutions in the U.S. from both a reduction in college-aged populations that will occur between 2017 and 2030, as well as the immediate and long-term effects of COVID-19.
Emergency and Mental Health Services Data Matching, Fort Collins, Colorado Collected and merged data from five different emergency and mental health service providers using fuzzy matching to allow a first-ever look at high utilizers across the services and share this information between providers.
Homelessness Intervention Needs, Chicago, Illinois Obtained and joined homelessness data (from the Homeless Management Information System) for the greater Chicago area in an attempt to make an early determination of the intervention needs for individuals experiencing homelessness.
Hospital Data Quality Assessment, Mongolia Performed in-person evaluation of data collection and reporting standards for small hospitals in both distant communities and large central hospitals.
Early Childhood Education Needs Assessment, Seaside and Astoria, Oregon Gathered data from various school districts and combined with American Community Survey and spatial data to evaluate potential needs for improved access to early childhood education.
