Prop 65 Compliance for Sports Equipment

In 2018, the State of California updated its Proposition 65 (Prop 65) regulations requiring warning labels on products that contain chemical carcinogens or reproductive toxicants above a given exposure limit.  The revised regulations sparked concern throughout product supply chains on the need for labeling.  To respond to a request from a retail distributor, a sports equipment manufacturer sought our support to certify that its products were Prop 65-compliant.

We worked closely with the manufacturer and its material suppliers to document the materials present in its products.  We evaluated the materials against the Prop 65 list and developed exposure models to calculate the potential exposure by users and bystanders, none of which exceeded Prop 65 levels.

We helped our client ensure product safety, comply with new regulations, and communicate the safety information to its customers.  Business liabilities were reduced while markets and supply chain commitments were uninterrupted.  In addition, the manufacturer was able to document its present and past compliance with Prop 65.
