Petroleum Contamination: Integral Contributes to ITRC Guidance on TPH Risk

Mala Pattanayek of Integral Consulting Inc. (Integral) was recently recognized for her contributions to guidance on evaluating risk of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH).  As a member of the TPH technical team of the Interstate Technology & Regulatory Council (ITRC), Ms. Pattanayek assisted in developing guidance to assist state regulators and practitioners in evaluating risk and establishing cleanup requirements at petroleum release sites.  The guidance, titled “TPH Risk Evaluation at Petroleum-Contaminated Sites,” helps provide the tools, techniques, and lessons learned to improve risk characterization and to make better-informed risk management decisions at petroleum-contaminated sites.

A senior consultant in toxicology and risk assessment, Ms. Pattanayek has served on the TPH technical team for three years.  She played a large role in leading the state surveys and coauthoring multiple chapters of the ITRC guidance document.

The ITRC is a public–private coalition working to reduce barriers to the use of innovative air, water, waste, and environmental remediation technologies and processes. ITRC produces documents and training that broaden and deepen technical knowledge and expedite quality regulatory decision making.
