Stormwater Management

Integral offers a comprehensive approach to stormwater management, addressing compliance, planning, design, and engineering, for industrial, commercial, and municipal facilities. With proven expertise, Integral helps clients comply with regulations through best management practices (BMPs), source control, and engineered stormwater systems. Our award-winning projects have earned accolades from both clients and regulators. Integral conducts facility-level studies to achieve permit compliance and large-scale stormwater sampling programs to develop basin-wide source control strategies. We are recognized for our ability to integrate stormwater chemistry data with fate-and-transport modeling results to evaluate the impact of stormwater on water quality. Integral staff also assist facility owners with all aspects of litigation support.

Permit Compliance Support and Strategic PlanningPermit Compliance Support and Strategic Planning

Integral develops cost-effective and appropriately scaled solutions to meet regulatory requirements and protect water and ecological resources from chemicals of concern in stormwater by implementing operational and treatment BMPs. Our scientists provide strategic advice for sampling and mapping of basin-wide stormwater systems to evaluate the potential for recontamination. In addition, we develop all aspects of stormwater management strategies for NPDES permit compliance, including stormwater plan development, sampling program development, agency support, and corrective action support.

Engineering Design and Implementation of Cost-Effective Stormwater Treatment StrategiesEngineering Design and Implementation of Cost-Effective Stormwater Treatment Strategies

Integral provides civil, environmental, hydrological, and hydraulic engineering design and support for stormwater systems. Our engineers analyze and prepare designs for stormwater conveyance systems, outfalls, retrofits, flow control facilities, and treatment BMPs. Integral also utilizes low-impact development design strategies, such as sustainable stormwater infrastructure, for remediation sites, redevelopment projects, and industrial facilities.

Mass Loading and Source IdentificationMass Loading and Source Identification

Integral is broadly recognized for high-end quantitative analyses of sediment transport and linking stormwater to sediment contamination. Quantitative techniques include spatial analysis; sediment flux analysis; chemical fingerprinting; statistical methods; dating with radioisotopes or pollen; toxicity, exposure, and reconstruction of historical loading; and causation evaluation. Our scientists also design and install stormwater and sediment collection equipment and conduct large-scale stormwater sampling events.

ModelingModeling

Integral develops and applies existing models to evaluate large and small industrial facilities, complex drainage basin systems, and floodplains. Based on project needs, a variety of modeling tools are used—ranging from single-event peak-runoff models to dynamic, continuous, rainfall-runoff simulation models.

Litigation SupportLitigation Support

Integral staff have provided important technical foundations for settling claims and avoiding costly litigation in third-party Clean Water Act claims regarding stormwater discharges at industrial facilities. We also support clients in implementing the complex requirements of settlement agreements.
