Integral GIS Experts Demonstrate New Ways to Visualize Geospatial Data

April 08 2009
Speaker(s): Erik R. Strandhagen, GISP, Mihai Aldea, Ph.D., David Livermore, R.G., L.H.G., R. Dreas Nielsen, Eron Dodak, R.G., L.H.G.

Integral geographic information systems (GIS) staff will present a paper and assist in moderating the environmental analysis session for the “GIS in Action” conference to be held April 21–22 in Vancouver, Washington. Hosted by the Columbia River Region of the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) and the local chapter of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA), the conference highlights current issues in the geospatial information community.

Gerald Palushock of Integral will present a paper titled “Graphic Visualization of Correlation and Similarity,” which he coauthored with Dreas Nielsen and Mihai Aldea, Ph.D., also of Integral Consulting. This approach has received strong interest from colleagues and clients for its unique ways of depicting the similarity between samples, locations, or variables inherent in a data set, creating an easily understood visual display of potentially complex relationships. Integral GIS Project Manager Erik Strandhagen, GISP, is serving on the program committee and as moderator for the environmental analysis session of the conference. Elected President of the ASPRS Columbia River Region chapter in 2009, Mr. Strandhagen has organized multiple conferences and workshops promoting the exchange of technology in the geospatial industry.

Mr. Strandhagen specializes in subsurface spatial analysis using geostatistics, LiDAR, and bathymetric data to construct 3-dimensional volumetric conceptual site models. In March, he presented “3D Subsurface Geostatistical Analysis with LiDAR and Bathymetric Data” at Portland State University’s ASPRS Student Chapter’s Geospatial Colloquium. The presentation highlighted recent Integral 3D subsurface geostatistical modeling and data visualization projects that supported the exploration, understanding and analysis of sediment and groundwater data. An expanded version of this paper, coauthored with David Livermore, R.G., L.H.G., and Eron Dodak, R.G., L.H.G., of Integral, was also presented at the 2009 Battelle Conference on Remediation of Contaminated Sediments, the 2008 ASPRS National Conference, and the 2008 Columbia River Region Technical Exchange.
