Integral Scientists Working with Schools to Develop Local Wellness Policies

March 08 2006

Integral scientists Cynthia Henderson and Marley Shoaf, of the Denver-metro, Colorado office, recently visited 20 schools in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado to evaluate their nutrition and physical activity environments.

Local School Wellness Policies were mandated by the federal government as part of the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004, and must be adopted by all schools participating in the National School Lunch Program by June of this year.

As part of Integral’s public health practice, Ms. Henderson and Ms. Shoaf are working with schools across the state of Colorado to evaluate student health and wellness, and to provide participating schools with information they can use to develop their Local School Wellness Policies.
